We've learned a lot over the years about growing plants. We've also learned that our Customers are the most important aspect of our business. Without you, we would have no business and we do not take our customers for granted. We strive to give you, our customers, the most value for your dollar, both in service and in products. Each email and phone call is returned as quickly as we can with as much information to answer your questions as we can give you. Each plant is grown and evaluated to be the best we can offer. Each package is prepared with care to make sure that when you open your box, that you are very happy with what we have provided to you. And last but not least, we are there for you after you order... to help you with problems and or concerns to make your experience with Camellias a pleasureable one. We firmly believe that a satisfied customer is the most important goal we can achieve
How we began......
The Camellia....we like to consider it the Queen of Ornamentals. It is truly an outstanding plant species, and one that is known for it's bountiful fall and winter blooms.
The Camellia Shop was developed in 2006 as an online source for camellias, something in today's market was not available in most cases. We have found that there are few nurseries that sell online. We saw the need to offer our customers our virtual Camellia store where you can shop for these beauties 24/7! Everything is at your fingertips except the actual feel and smell which we have yet to be able to master.
The Camellia Shop began as a concept by our real-life nursery Gene's Nursery. Gene's Nursey began in 1957 when our father, Francis Eugene Phillips began growing camellias and azaleas at his home in historic Savannah Georgia. Francis was disabled from WWII and although received a modest income from his time in battle, he had the need to make additional money for his family, which included his wife Betty and his young son Gene. Francis loved the camellia. So much that he would often cut blooms and give them to the lady customers just to see a smile on their faces. He would share his camellias when he could, sometimes giving them away just becuase it made the people happy! He passed away in 1973 and his son Gene took over his business, and from there took his fathers nursery and made it into one of Savannah's Greatest. In 1991, Ben Odom and I, (Debbie Odom) joined Gene, our long time friend in his business. Over the years we have enjoyed growing many different types of plants, but the one that is treasured most is the Camellia.
In 2007, Gene's Nursery closed it's doors to retail customers after 50 years of business - but we created The Camellia Shop! which now serves many more customers all over the country. With our ever increasing line of camellias, and the ability to ship to all US continental states, we are proud to serve all of our customers with the utmost in quality and service. We have seen many beautiful camellias in gardens across the country as have many of our customers. There are so few camellia growers these days, and those that do grow are barely able to keep up with the demand. We hope that we can help you find the perfect camellia, the one that's been lost, and the ones that you've never seen or heard of!
Our Future:
We will continue to offer our customers the finest camellias available today. We will also strive to provide our customers with new and outstanding varieties that will not only be beautiful in your garden but that should perform well in most instances.
