Hybrids are camellias that have more than one species in their parantage. If we have a cross of a camellia sasanqua and camellia japonica, the resulting plant is known as a hybrid. Seedlings from a hybrid cross will have similiar characteristics from the parental species. This is especially helpful when camellias are bred for certian characteristics such as cold hardiness, fragrance or long blooming seasons.
